The 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Academician Summit and the Greater Bay Area Docking Conference for Technology Achievements of National Key Laboratories were successfully held in Shenzhen from December 12th to 13th. With the theme of "Gathering of National Key Labs in the Greater Bay Area and Deep Integration of Industry and Innovation", the Summit brought together nearly 100 well-known scientists, 138 responsible persons or representatives of 116 national key laboratories, and 236 responsible persons or chief scientists of enterprises to participate in this science and technology innovation event. Huadu District was deeply engaged in the key sections of the Summit, and comprehensively demonstrated the results of institutes-local innovation cooperations through platform docking, track focus, and project implementation, injecting strong scientific and technological momentum into regional industrial upgrading.

Take the Summit as a platform to activate regional strategic potential

On the morning of December 13, In the county and district presentation session of the general assembly's Academy-County Action initiative, relevant leaders of Huadu District gave a comprehensive introduction to the investment and development advantages of Huadu to nearly 100 well-known scientists, representatives of national key laboratories and enterprise leaders, using the high-end exchange bridge built by the Federation of Guangdong Academicians. As home to the air-rail hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Huadu District is closely following the four strategic positioning and four core functions to accelerate leap of growth, and building a "12635" modern industrial system. 7 national platforms, largest investable industrial land reserve of Guangzhou city, and 13 special policies make the District a preferred place for academicians to commercialize their achievements and for enterprises to invest and develop.

Relying on the normalized cooperation mechanism of the Federation, Huadu District continues to deepen institution-local cooperation and institute- enterprise cooperation, and promote the commercialization of cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements. Two academician-led projects that are being implemented will become important engines for Huadu's development in technology and innovation. The green and low-carbon advanced elastomer and tire research institute project, led by Zhang Liqun, CAE academician and president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and aiming to build a performance test platform for overloaded tires under extreme conditions that is true to the name of national key equipment, is currently under construction, and the large scientific device is scheduled to enter the site in March next year.

The Greater Bay Area Green Hydrogen Industry Development Research Institute and the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials Greater Bay Area Green Hydrogen Application Demonstration Base Project, led by Zhang Yue, CAS academician, TWAS academician, and former vice president of the University of Science and Technology Beijing, is focused on the R&D of green hydrogen production key technologies and equipment, and the construction of an intelligent production line for nano-catalytic hydrogen components. Both R&D production lines completed installation and equipment debugging and officially commenced operation in November.

Focus on the green energy track and draw a blueprint for industrial development

At the seminar on new energy, green and low-carbon cutting-edge technologies and industrial development held on the afternoon of December 13, representatives of universities, scientific research institutions, enterprises and government departments had in-depth exchanges focused on key tracks such as hydrogen energy, ammonia energy, and new energy storage. The Management Committee of Huadu Development Zone gave detailed explanations to the policy support system and development plan of Huadu District for the new energy industry, with focus on the introduction to the core strategic platform of the "Green Energy Valley" in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It also sincerely invited academicians and experts to participate in depth as "co-builders", and welcomed enterprises and research institutions to settle in Huadu and join hands to explore new paths of differentiated and integrated development. This seminar not only provided precise insights for the implementation of the nation's 'dual carbon' strategy, but also built a bridge between innovation, industry and policy to accelerate incubation of industry-university-research institute collaboration projects.

In the future, Huadu will build a more efficient platform for the commercialization of innovative results with a more open attitude and better services, promote deep matching of academician wisdom and industrial needs, transform more "academician wisdom" into "development effectiveness", so as to contribute to the integrated development of science and technology innovation in the Greater Bay Area, and participating in the writing of a new chapter in industrial innovation and integration.
